Kermit the Woodman is the best wood refinisher in Spokane County. If there were a scale of 1 to 10, I would definitely rate Kermit as a 100. I inherited several pieces of furniture belonging to my Grandmother and each held heartfelt sentimental value for me. Kermit carefully guided me through the process from beginning to end with open communication and advice. His shop is fascinating and he is more than willing to offer a guided tour answering any and all questions. The finish shop is a separate area where he met with me to discuss in great detail the stain colors. He is extremely knowledgeable in the area of period pieces, types of wood, how colors affect the different wood types, the typical colors used within that time period, etc. His advice and guidance was invaluable. Kermit also is able to order hard to find antique replacement parts, knobs, drawer pulls, trunk handles, etc. And he picks up and delivers!
I would recommend Kermit the Woodman to anyone who desires to preserve a treasured piece. Kermit is fun to talk to, has a great sense of humor, and is straightforward to work with. Kudos to Kermit the Woodman!
I have inherited many beautiful antique pieces of furniture over the years - many in dire shape but with great sentimental value. I was fortunate enough to have Kermit recommended by a local antique dealer as a master refinisher. He is truly a craftsman of the highest caliber - over the past ten years I have brought him many projects including chairs, tables, and even an antique sewing machine. Kermit has always amazed me at how he takes something that is literally falling apart like my captain’s chairs and makes them the masterpieces they were meant to be. I am only sorry that I don’t have before AND after pictures to show his true craftsmanship.

Kermit took my damaged, worn, dated table and made it a stunning, modern work of art. We are so pleased with the results. We shopped for a new table and were turned off by the inferior quality and high prices. Kermit offers a skilled craftsman’s alternative that is a far better investment. We have a one of a kind dining room set that we will treasure and enjoy.
These beautiful cabinets and desk where purchased in Spokane by Dr. Earl Loffler, for his medical practice. He had gotten his medical degree in 1901. Initially he practiced medicine by driving his horse and buggy to farms and giving medical care to the area farming families. He later moved back to Spokane to continue practicing medicine, until he decided to retire due to his age and a fire in the building, he was located around 1958 or 1959. The furniture pieces received smoke damage.
Dr. Loffler donated the office furniture to Dr. Harold Dick, ND as he began his new practice in 1959 in Spokane, they were used for storage and basement office work where they sat in disrepair and neglect. Dr. Harold retired in 1994, after a 35-year career. Dr. Letitia Dick, ND began her practice with her father in 1990 and continued to use the furniture, mostly unseen in storage areas.
Upon moving the clinic from Garland Avenue to West Francis in 2014, Dr. Letitia had the cabinets and desk refinished by Kermit, The Woodman. Now these are prominently placed in the waiting area and main exam room of the Windrose Naturopathic Clinic in Spokane, WA. They look as new, or even better. One cabinet had a thick green paint covering the oak. Thank you so much Kermit! You have made my clinic very special. It is magical to be able to still use “home grown” medical furniture over 100 years old.
The dining room table came into my family (second hand) in 1916 in Denver. After my grandparents were married in 1926, they bought it from my grandfather’s uncle and it was in my grandmother’s home until its move to Spokane in 2005. At that time the table top was in bad shape. Kermit restored it along with the four leaves and did a beautiful job.
Kermit is "The Craftsman" when it comes to restoring your furniture. He refinished all of these pieces plus made 5 leaves for the clawfoot oak table. I appreciate all the work that he has done for us.
I had an old discolored hope chest. Kermit was highly recommended to me by a friend to refinish it for me. I am so happy with the result, it looks beautiful, the finish work is perfect, and it turned into an amazing piece of furniture. I acquired this pool table probably 35 years ago from an employee. He told me some of the history where it came from. I had moved it various times over the years. When I decided to put it together in my new addition, I started to refurbish it. I decided to look into the history of the maker. It came from the estate of Mr. De St. Germain of San Francisco, California. This was painted on the bottom of one of the slates. De St. Germain turned out to be a former partner of Jacob Strahle. In 1869, they were the leading manufacturer of billiard tables producing about 100 tables a year at an average value of $550.00. With this kind of history, I needed a more professional finish work for the restoration. I looked up Kermit, The Woodman. Really enjoy his personality. He suggested different finishes. The result was so great!
Kerm says he re-glued each individual parts (legs and framework) restored the missing veneer and repaired each individual piece for finishing process.
